Sorry, no BSR this evening... in related news, we got a Spotify... in unrelated news, "The world is going to end in 12 years"

Bomb Shelter Radio Studio/Transmitter Site, circa 1989(*)
(RANT)

OK, let us get that "end of the world" thing out of the way first. The full quote was:

“Millennials and people, you know, Gen Z and all these folks that will come after us are looking up and we’re like, The world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change and your biggest issue is how are we gonna pay for it?” the freshman congresswoman said. “This is the war—this is our World War II.” -- Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez quoted at https://www.newsweek.com/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-climate-change-world-will-end-12-years-un-report-1300873

I bring it up because there seems to be a kerfluffle about the "12 years" part in the news media (again). Seems to me we shouldn't worry about the world ending on a particular date in 2033, we should be worrying about making sure it doesn't happen at all. FOCUS ON THE BIG PICTURE FOLKS! Meanwhile, even a sea sponge should know that people will take your embellishments, twist them, and throw shade on a legitimate topic, don't you agree AOC?

No BSR tonight, BSR next Thursday. We hope you will join us.

Heidi set up a Spotify playlist for people to enjoy since there is no show tonight, you can find it at https://open.spotify.com/user/qe8bply8oh8w34z13tugws6q6/playlist/0Xiymqkot2ltK3BgjkW7JY?si=9L3lXwqmQwGlSVxRIsI2vQ

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend!

Cheers,
Illya

(*) Actually this is a scene from Weird Al's classic film UHF. In real life it was the transmitter for KGTO AM 1050 in Tulsa, OK.

Working on the show opening

The show opening has been an amalgamation of oddly sequenced sound clips usually tied to an instrumental backing track. The new opening promises... MORE OF THE SAME! Nothing is ready to publish yet, but I'll give you a few tidbits. The backing track is from Tron: Legacy, and clips include bits from Apocalypse Now, Charade, Anchorman, and Goldeneye.. I haven't updated the website, but we are shooting for our first broadcast on... <DRUM ROLL> Thursday April 25th at 8PM US/Eastern (UTC-4) I hope you will join us. --Illya

What will you use to listen to BSR?

So, in about seven days BSR will be back on the air. For some folks, connecting to BSR will be old hat. The server is in the same location it was during our last million broadcasts, and they already have a streaming application they are familiar with. For others, this may be a new experience (and if so, welcome aboard!) or they need a refresher. Rather than try a one size fits all tutorial just yet, I figured I would start with some basic questions. What listening tool would you like to use? (e.g. iTunes) What operating system are you on? (e.g. Windows) This will help us develop a few tutorials to get folks started. Please let us know in the comments. And now, your moment of zen… https://twitter.com/VirginAustralia/status/1118760531618172928 Cheers, Illya PS: In theory this should post automatically to the slack channel as well. It is interesting to see the difference between a tool that encourages collaboration (slack), and one that is a closed system (f...

Fighting the monster

It is a typical day at work. I'm caught up, for the most part. The weather is good. I had a good lunch, and by many measures all is well. Except for the monster. The monster is a thief of good emotions. It is difficult to keep the monster at bay, but I keep trying. I go to the Doc, I take my meds, I meditate, and I try to keep myself reasonably fed and watered. It isn't easy, and it is never done. That frustration alone can make it worse. So, why write about it? In my own way, I am trying to defang the monster by not keeping it a secret. I don't hide my depression or treatment, I'm upfront about it... without being in your face about it. Many folks suffer in secret, not wanting to deal with unfair stigmas associated with the disease. I was there a long time ago, and I do know that it can get better, albeit imperfectly sometimes. So, I'll keep fighting the monster. Like many other situations involving monsters, fighting is much better than surrendering to...
